Trained in science and engineering before joining the Ōita Prefectural Bamboo Craft Training Center and later the studio of Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, Shimizu Yūki approaches bamboo with the mindset of a builder.

Inspired by the adaptive strategies of living forms, he conceives Shō as a form in mutation, gradually crystallized. The ajiro-ami plaiting becomes a vocabulary of facets, capturing light and cutting shadow. Constructed like an open architecture, the work brings together solids and voids, angles and curves, within a taut geometry where technical rigor becomes inner energy.
