Ken Noguchi

Description

Ken Noguchi was born in 1982 in Osaka Prefecture and graduated from Kanazawa College of Art in 2008.

His work stands out for its innovative integration of cotton cords into traditional lacquer techniques.

A true heir to the ancestral craft of urushi, Noguchi patiently winds cotton ropes around molds before applying layer upon layer of urushi lacquer.

Emerging as if from a land of plenty, his black and red sculptures rise like enchanted mountains.

The perfection of these lacquered landscapes — all roundness and depth — awakens a voluptuous, yet forbidden, desire to touch.
