Description

Edo Period Japanese Boxwood Kaeru "frog" Signed: Notada Tsunetada

Finely hand carved boxwood frog with baby okimono. A pair of frogs one larger sitting comfortable on a zori (straw sandal). A small baby frogs is seen dropping its head and touching its nose to the ground.

Frogs are seen to be lucky creatures that are link to things or people that return back to their original origin. Often the frog was described as a symbol of Spring or Summer.

Original finish with warm natural glow consistent with age. Overall excellent condition.
