Description

Tsuina is a ritual which even nowadays continues to be practiced to exorcize a devil and to repel demons.

This devil was always depicted with sharp fangs as it is in this example, and was believed to cause harm. The misfortunes and disasters it might bring were avoided through the performance of the ritual.

This mask was once lacquered, but the lacquer has worn off over time, and it is therefore impossible to determine its original color. However, it remains incredibly dignified in appearance, and overwhelming to its viewers.
