Description

Gumo hibachi

Old well bucket transformed into a brazier

This old well bucket has been fitted with an inner copper container in order to convert it into a brazier.

The object is decorated with a decoration representing a spider's web and dead leaves. The decoration continues around the perimeter of the brazier.

In historical chronicles, the earth spider, tsuchi-gumo, is used to refer to bandits, rebels and chieftains who challenged the authority of the emperor.

The Joro-gumo is a yokai from Japanese mythology, a spider spirit that can transform into a very beautiful woman or be half-woman half-spider.
