Description

A wonderful Kōbako, a tier of two boxes. The motif is traditional Genji motif.

Kōbako : encens cabinet

The scene is depicted with autumn flowers, as bellflowers and chrysanthemums.

The artist made full use of the cubic shape of boxes to express the story. The figures expressed are fine, and the technique is quite fine.

The nashiji gold lacquer ware with a flecked effect is adopted overall, the piece creates a gorgeous atmosphere of rich nobles’ taste.

The scenery with golden clouds which was used often to express the old traditional Japanese screen shows a beautiful sight. The composition is exquisite.
