Streamline by Hayashi Jyunpei

Hayashi Jyunpei is one of the youngest finalist for this second Mingei Bamboo Prize.

Born in 1991 in Kyoto, he graduated in International Relations from Ritsumeikan University (2013), before radically changing direction and opting for the “bamboo path”.

In 2018, he graduated from the Oita Prefecture Bamboo Craft Training Center and the same year became a disciple of Tanabe Chikuunsai IV and participated in this capacity in many monumental installations created by his master.

Despite his young age, Jyunpei has already won several awards:
“First prize” (24th Japan Bamboo Craft Exhibition 2019); “Newcomer Encouragement Prize” (50th Japan Traditional Kōgei Kinki Exhibition - 2020); and “Japan Kōgei Association Prize” (50th Japan Traditional Kōgei
Kinki Exhibition - 2021) and now the Mingei Bamboo Prize 2023 !
