Okimono of a skeleton
A rare Japanese carved boxwood okimono of a skeleton.
He is seated with legs folded under him, hands resting on a large skull fragment. That both the skeleton and the larger skull are missing their jaw bones is a touch of whimsy added by the artist.
Beautifully carved with excellent original patina.
Signed: 屍陀林王 Shidarin'о̄ (in Japanese) Meaning: Skeletal deity 林王 Very uncommon surname in Japanese as Rin'nо̄ or Rin'о̄
