IIZUKA Shokansai, Shigetoshi real name, is the son of the celebrated artist Iizuka Rokansai. Graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Tokyo, he became the disciple of his father. In 1947, he was awarded to the Nitten and in 1954 won the first prize. If excels in traditional techniques, he nevertheless created his own style and his own techniques. He is the second bamboo artist to receive in 1982, the title of Living National Treasure. He passed away on 4 September 2004.
