Gyokuson Yunoki (1865-1943)

58.5 x 21.5 cm (132.5 x 30.5 cm)
Little is known about this painter born in 1865, and named Hokei at birth, in what is now Okayama Prefecture. Gyokuson Yunoki studied painting under the Chinese painter Hu T’ieh-mei, called Ko Tetsubai in Japan. He died in 1943 at the age of 79. This rock is painted in the purest tradition of the Chinese literati and shows the master’s influence on his disciple.
